Adding days or weeks to a date
Syllabi rarely give every deadline as a date. "Responses are due one week after each lecture," "the draft is due 10 days after the proposal," and "final revisions two weeks after feedback" all need arithmetic. Set the start date, add the days or weeks, and the calculator returns the calendar date and how far away it is. Weeks are exactly seven days, so a Tuesday plus two weeks is always a Tuesday.
Counting down to a deadline
When you already know the due date, the useful numbers are days remaining and weekdays remaining. The second one is usually the honest one: if a paper is due Monday morning and it is Wednesday, you have five calendar days but only three weekdays, and the weekend is when the other classes catch up with you. Enter the due date and both counts update. A date in the past shows how many days late you are.
How Canvas handles due dates
- Due dates have a time. Most default to 11:59 PM in the course time zone. Anything submitted after that is marked late, even by a minute.
- Available-until is different from due. An assignment can accept late work until the "available until" date, after which it locks. Late work between the two dates may lose points under the course's late policy.
- Sections can differ. Instructors can assign different due dates to different sections or students, so the date on a classmate's Canvas may not be yours.

How do I find the date an assignment is due from "two weeks from today"?
Enter today as the start date, choose 2 weeks, and the calculator adds 14 calendar days. Syllabi that say "one week after the lecture" or "10 days from release" work the same way with the release date as the start.
What counts as a weekday here?
Monday through Friday. Weekdays remaining excludes the start date and includes the due date, so a Friday deadline seen on Monday shows four weekdays left. Holidays are not subtracted; check your academic calendar.
Does "days remaining" include today?
No. It is the number of midnights between today and the due date, so something due tomorrow shows one day remaining and something due today shows zero.
Why does Canvas show a time as well as a date?
Canvas due dates carry a time, usually 11:59 PM in the course time zone, and Canvas marks a submission late one minute after it. This calculator works in whole days, so treat the result as the due day and check the exact time on the assignment.
Is this a pregnancy due date calculator?
No. This page is for assignment, paper, and project deadlines. It adds days or weeks to a start date and counts the days and weekdays left until a deadline; it has nothing to do with pregnancy.
